Savanna-la-Mar Primary School

Located in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Savanna-la-Mar Primary is one of the top primary schools in the western region of the country. The school is operated by the Ministry of Education and has a population of approximately 1800 students ranging from six (6) to twelve (12) years old. Sav Primary operates a shift system: a X shift and a Y shift. The first shift (morning) begins at 7:00am and ends at 12:00pm. The second shift (evening) begins at 12:15pm and end at 5:00pm.

It takes the dedication and actions of many persons to operate Sav Primary succesfully. The school is headed by a principal, 2 vice principals and a Board of Directors and has approximately fifty (50) teachers on staff along with two guidance counsellors, administrative and ancillary staff. The Parent Teacher's Association is a vital part of the school and plays an active role in its operation by frequently meeting with the administration for the school and undertaking several activities and projects to enhance the school's environments and improve the teacher/learner relationship.

In 1990 the school was adopted by the Hon. Owen Sinclair, O.D., Custos Rotulorum, Custos of Westmoreland, who has played an extremly vital role in the life of the school. Mr. Sinclair has constructed additional buildings which have been used to accomodate a computer lab, a library, an open area for meetings, a guidance office, a sick bay, a music room and a storeroom.
